The character in discussion is Jim Lovell (Tom Hank) who is the lead astronaut commander in the Apollo 13 space mission. He leads his team successfully from the training moment all through to the space ship ordeal. He can be said to be a democratic leader but when need arises, he is authoritarian. This leadership behavior was evident when Haise started blaming Swigert for the accident claiming it is his inexperience that led to their predicament. Lovell interjects and uses his authoritative voice to break up this argument and made them concentrate on the task at hand (Grazer and Howard, 1995).
