Managers are justified in monitoring employees as long as they do not intrude the basic rights of the individual and as long as they consider the individually held moral standards. Monitoring should only be done as a check and balance measure to ensure high ethical standards. Respect to employees privacy, within reason, needs to be a consideration (Mujtaba, n.d.). Management must also realize that monitoring might also be counterproductive because it causes resentment among employees since they will have the feeling that management does not trust them.
