According to Atkinson 1964, p.1, the study of motivation has to do with analysis of the various factors that incite and direct an individuals actions. This description of the study of motivation lays employee behaviour at the heart of the study of motivation and motivation extends to all spheres of human activity due to its involvement with human behaviour and the responses of individual to various stimuli to promote action in a particular desired direction (Atkinson, 1964).
