Short excerpt:

French and Raven demonstrated five power related bases that are included in an organization which includes reward power, coercive power, legitimate power, referent power and expert power. It is possible to manifest by means of one or more than one of these bases. Reward power is the capability of a manager to provide certain types of rewards to employees. The rewards vary from monetary payment to improvement in working timetable. In the Corporation A, the marketing manager encourages all the employees of marketing department to work beyond the stipulated work schedule as good performers so as to earn bonus as rewards at the end of the year. Thus, for this reason Employee 1 used to work even in the weekends for receiving the bonus (Podsakoff Schriesheim, 1985).
