Virtual organisation is a term that came into existence in the 1990s. Virtual organisations are motivated by the information revolution which allows communication to take place in real time, regardless of location. Virtual organisations are geographically distributed organisations whose members are bound by a common set of goals and objectives and who communicate and coordinate tasks through the use of information technology (Ahuja and Carley 1998).
